Hello there,

I am trying to have my Acronis Backup software backup my hard drive on a dialy basis. Unfortunatly I get a file locking error. As seen at the bottom of this post.

Is there anyway that I can avoid the file being locked without having to close the application every day? (the computer is asleep when the backup runs and no one needs to be using the mnb file.)

The locking error is as follows;
Failed to backup file or folder '\\Pc01-itmanager\C\Work\BMS Sunrise Specifications v1.0.0.0\BMS Sunrise Specifications v1.0.0.0.mnb'.
Error opening the file. (0x40007)
function = "CreateFileW",
filename = "\\?\UNC\Pc01-itmanager\C\Work\BMS Sunrise Specifications v1.0.0.0\BMS Sunrise Specifications v1.0.0.0.mnb"
Tag = 0xA8A1022BD18AE036
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. (0xFFF0)
code = FFFFFFFF80070020
Tag = 0xBD28FDBD64EDB816: Retry/Ignore/Cancel: User replied: Ignore

Thank you kindly on any thoughts

Hm...it's not possible while database is opened. It's a security measure.
But there is a solution: you can set password to your database and auto lock time. When database is locked - it's free and can be copied :unibrow:

I think I'm gonna disable this lock in non-password-protected database in upcoming 1.61.

I'm not sure what you mean with the first post. :(

The unlock idea for v1.61 I would greatly appreciate!

Thanks heaps again for excellent peice of software

About the solution: you can set a password for your database (File -> Preferences -> Security) and set "Autolock data after [xx] minutes".
When program is in system tray it always has database file opened and locked but when you have Autolock enabled (only when password is set) database will be unloaded after 25 mins of inactivity. But to restore program from system tray you will have to enter password.

Also I remembered why that lock was made - to prevent from opening one database file in two copies of Mars Notebook. So it will not be removed. Only in one of the future versions with multiuser support.
