Exporting to .chm File

Unread postby ushangar » Wed Nov 12, 2008 10:12 pm

Hi,
I wanted to export the content from Mars NoteBook to .chm file and place the .chm file in a common network drive for other to view the content.
When I copy the file to a network drive, I don’t get to see the content for each tree node.
However when I copy the file in my local machine from drive to drive or folder to folder it works.
I have purchased the 1.6 version a while ago. I love the functionality, I just want a way to share my work with others and I like the .chm idea.
Any suggestion/help is very much appreciated.
Thanks

Hm, sounds strange a little.
So when you open your .chm from network (for example \\someserver\somefolder\my.chm) it appears incorrecly?
Does this happen with another .chm files? Because all document resources for chm are integrated into that chm and always with him.
Alternatively you can try whole database export into HTML with tree. Looks better than chm but a lot of files...

I'm sure you found the answer by now but I just ran into the same problem so just in case -
Follow these instructions (see http://www.helpscribble.com/chmnetwork.html for full article)...

The security patch and its effects are fully described on Microsoft's web site at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896358

If you trust all the computers on your LAN or intranet (and the people using them), you can lower the restrictions on the Local Intranet zone to allow CHM files to be displayed with the following steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\ItssRestrictions
If this registry subkey does not exist, create it.
3. Right-click the ItssRestrictions subkey, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4. Type MaxAllowedZone, and then press Enter.
5. Right-click the MaxAllowedZone value, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
7. Quit Registry Editor.

Worked like a charm!
